RDU’s New Terminal 2

December 15, 2008

Tomorrow I will land at RDU for the last time in 2008, capping about 110,000 miles in the air for the year (thanks to a client base heavy on Seattle and Silicon Valley, plus unforgettable trips to India and Spain).

For the second time I will deplane into RDU's new Terminal 2. It is a gorgeous building. From the spacious check-in areas to the ceiling inspired by the Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk Flyer, it provides lots of clean lines to catch the eye. Better still, they've decided not to crank CNN Airport Edition everywhere, so the gate areas are quiet and welcoming. They transplanted the few quaint aspects of the old Terminal A, like the second-hand bookshop and the shoe-shine stand. They did it right. I look forward to my next trips there.
